About the Author:
Brenda Bowen Wright
Brenda Bowen Wright is not your ordinary author – she’s a lifelong educator, curious adventurer, and passionate science storyteller. A retired middle school science teacher, Brenda spent years sparking wonder in her students by turning complex concepts into fun, accessible lessons. Now, she’s doing the same for young readers through her science-infused fiction.
But Brenda’s journey to becoming a writer wasn’t a straight path. Before becoming a teacher, she served as an undercover police agent and worked for a major airline, jobs that took her to new places and sparked a deep love for exploration and investigation. These unique life experiences now shape the characters and plots in her books, giving them depth, excitement, and heart.
Brenda believes that reading is one of the most powerful ways to learn. That’s why every one of her stories is enriched with real science concepts – carefully woven into thrilling plots that educate as they entertain. Her debut book, The Life of Mineraux, is a perfect example: a science fiction adventure full of planetary exploration, ethical questions, and scientific discovery, all told through the eyes of a courageous young girl.
Currently living in Utah with her black-and-white cat, Oreo, Brenda is surrounded by her supportive extended family. She’s endlessly inspired by the natural world, her past students, and the exciting mysteries of science. Through her books, she hopes to reach young readers everywhere – especially those who think science isn’t for them – and show them just how fun and fascinating learning can be.
When she’s not writing, Brenda enjoys reading, traveling, and staying curious about the universe. And yes, she’s always thinking about her next science-filled adventure to share with her readers.
Meet the Author:
Brenda Bowen Wright
Brenda Bowen Wright is a passionate author whose life has been shaped by her love for books, science, and art. These three forces weave together to inspire her creative and educational pursuits, resulting in adventure-filled stories that spark curiosity and learning.
Brenda’s writing journey began with a pivotal moment just before her graduation from Utah State University in 1975. A professor’s candid critique of her writing skills set her on a determined path to master the craft. “How could someone who loves books as much as I do leave this Earth without being able to write?” she reflects. From childhood favorites like Dr. Seuss and Nancy Drew to gripping thrillers by Michael Crichton, books have been her lifelong companions, fueling her imagination and drive to create.
With a deep-rooted passion for science, Brenda spent twenty-four years teaching middle school science, where she seamlessly blended her love for literature and discovery. Her classroom was a haven of science-themed adventure books, encouraging students to explore the world through reading. “Books and science go hand in hand,” Brenda says. She often inspired her students by sharing creative ways to use science beyond the lab—whether through writing stories about alien ecosystems on distant exoplanets or likening a cell’s functions to a bustling city. With a playful grin, she’d add, “Never mind, forget I said that—I’m writing those books, so you’ll have to find your own ideas!” Her students, undeterred, would scribble their own dreams of becoming great writers, sparking lively debates about who would pen the next bestseller.
Now retired, Brenda is turning her words into action, crafting science-infused adventure stories designed to ignite a love for learning. “Reading is the most fun way to learn,” she says, and her writing reflects that belief, blending thrilling narratives with scientific concepts to captivate readers of all ages.
Among her favorite books, Brenda cherishes Top Secret by James Reynolds Gardiner, where the protagonist invents human photosynthesis, and George’s Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl, which she used to teach the importance of meticulous note-taking in experiments. For adult readers, she recommends Lab Girl by Hope Jahren for its heartfelt exploration of science and The Martian by Andy Weir for its gripping survival story grounded in real science.
Through her writing, Brenda continues to inspire, proving that stories can be both entertaining and educational. Join her on this journey where imagination meets discovery, and every page is an adventure waiting to unfold.
